Circle of Change is a 501 (c) (3) dedicated to enhancing and enriching the lives of Veterans suffering from PTSD, using dogs as the vehicle for change.
A series of two-hour weekly classes are held over thirteen weeks. These classes are supervised by professional dog trainers. This provides opportunities for veterans to help troubled dogs come to a better quality of life. At the same time, veterans have access to steady and well trained dogs for their comfort and for building their confidence in handling dogs. Veterans learn about the various dog breeds and their personalities and qualities. For those seeking a companion dog in the future, these experiences provide the knowledge to make an informed decision about what dog might be best for them. Trainers offer advice and guidance in such decisions as well. Classes are currently offered in the Madison WI and Rockford IL areas.
Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and traumatic brain injury (TBI) have been identified as the long lasting legacies of the recent Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts. We have developed a program that is making a difference for veterans struggling with these issues. This program serves veterans of all conflicts who are challenged, disabled, in transition, and/or suffer from the effects of PTSD or TBI. Admission to the program requires a referral from a VA mental health professional. Licensed mental health professions have found this program to be as, or more, effective than some of the more traditional therapies.
