Welcome to Marjesira Inn:
Waterfront Lodging on Vashon Island
1-2 rooms to rent by the night, week, or month.

To come down the trail, stairs, and walk through the doors of Marjesira, is to step back in time. Over a hundred years old, it maintains a charm and rustic elegance in a craftsman style. You will see the remnants of a time before; fixtures from the gas settling lamps still adorn the walls. The dock, now shorter, was once a stop for the Mosquito Fleet steamships that served Vashon-Maury Island. Oriented toward the waters of Outer Quartermaster Harbor, and a registered Historical Landmark, it was built before there were roads, and functioned as an inn, general store, and post office. Now Marjesira’s main access is a shell strewn path past the garden and a flight of 63 stairs (please take note of this if stairs are a challenge for you).

The original gold letters above the doors designate the five rooms available, each has a view of the water and a character all its own. “A” and “J” have queen beds, “B” and “D” have full beds, and “H” has a twin. These can be rented individually for as little as a night; if you are just passing through or want a quick get away. If there is a larger group of you, all the rooms can be rented together for a minimum of two nights.

Staying at Marjesira includes use of most of the house and grounds (the host, her mellow dog and cat live on the property). A well equipped kitchen, extra refrigerators, and cupboard space, are available for guests. The ‘Great Room’ has a large table that extends for many, and a sitting area with rockers for all. In the parlor is an extensive library, a piano, many musical instruments, and a wood stove to cozy up around when the temperature is cooler. The two bathrooms are shared by all. The bathroom upstairs has a shower; the big claw-foot tub is in the main level bathroom.

A favorite place to watch the birds, otters, or the early morning sunlight dancing on the water, is the east facing covered porch. On a clear day, the top of Mt. Rainer will peek up over Maury Island. Decks off the kitchen and upstairs, as well as the dock out front, offer more lounging and gathering space. Even when the house is full, there are plenty of nooks and crannies, such as the hammock, hanging seat, and window seat, to feel the sense of private space. Miles of beach are just out the front door (when tides allow), and many island trails offer the opportunity to connect to the natural beauty of the island.
For those arriving from out of the area, Vashon is a great place to have the rural experience and also have access to all that the cities of Tacoma and Seattle offer. It can also be a great base from which to go explore the amazing outdoor opportunities of Olympic National Park, the Cascade Mountains, and the waters of Puget Sound. For those in the cities, the short ferry trip will take you worlds away.

The most common descriptors of those who have spent time at Marjesira : magical, nurturing, healing, peaceful, and calming. Come for a day a week or a month, come from near or far, come by bicycle, kayak, boat, plane, car, or bus….. Come experience Marjesira Inn for yourself.
