Wellington Lake is a privately-owned natural wilderness area open to the public for camping, fishing, and hiking.
Wellington Lake is located approximately 11 miles southeast of Bailey, Colorado. This scenic 1,200+ acre property adjoins the Pike National Forest and Lost Creek Wilderness and offers year round recreational opportunities for all. The 9,691 foot Castle Mountain guards the western portion of the property and is often the most photographed landscape of the area.
Wellington Lake is managed as a trophy fishery that practices catch and release methods with artificial bait, lure and fly presentations only. The lake has a recruitment population of Brook Trout, and is routinely stocked with Brown, Rainbow, and Cutbow Trout ranging from 8-30 inches and up to 12 pounds. The lake is fed by three inlets and contains over 2 miles of accessible shoreline to fish from. Hand launched boats, belly boats, canoes, kayaks, with electric trolling motors are allowed. Since Wellington Lake is private property, but open to the public at fee, a Colorado Parks and Wildlife fishing license is not required. During the winter months Wellington Lake is a popular destination for ice fisherman.
The property also offers 75 campsites furnished with fire pits and picnic tables. Campsites are available for reservation and on a first come, first serve basis.
