Willimantic Downtown is managed by Thread City Development. Our Vision: Willimantic’s downtown will be a center of arts, culture, entertainment, recreation,
retail traffic, and a destination to live, work, play and invest. Thread City Development is a 501c3 Nonprofit Corporation.

About Wilimantic: Largely developed around Willimantic’s booming textile industry in the early 20th century, Willimantic’s downtown is a place where arts, theatre, business and education work together to maintain a regional center of culture, entertainment, recreation with eye popping events, museums, one-of-a-kind shops and charming restaurants in a river valley crammed with opportunities for biking, hiking and water sports.

A dominant theme that appears in Willimantic’s art, shop displays and store windows and the welcoming Thread City Crossing bridge is frogs. The amphibians decorating The Frog Bridge are fully 11-feet tall, and they sit atop an equally defining symbol – spools of thread. Both rooted in the town’s history.
