Yuma Proving Ground - (928) 328-6533

Welcome to the official U.S. Army Yuma Proving Ground Facebook page where you will find the most recent news coverage, videos and photos highlighting our activities.

Located in Southwest Arizona adjacent to the Colorado River, Yuma Proving Ground extends over 1300 square miles of varied desert terrain -- wide sandy valleys, craggy peaks, open desert. The varied geography permits numerous test and training activities to take place at the same time, with an average of 100 tests taking place each week.

The proving ground also controls 2000 miles of restricted airspace over largely unpopulated desert terrain. This permits highly realiistic testing for developers of unmanned aircraft and helicopter sensor and weapon systems.

Yuma Proving Ground manages three separate test centers. The first, Yuma Test Center, operates at Yuma Proving Ground. The second, Cold Regions Test Center at Fort Greely, Alaska, tests weapon systems amid the coldest climate in the United States. The third, Tropic Regions Test Center, tests military systems in some of the harshest jungles of the world in Panama, Honduras, Suriname, Hawaii, and other locations.

One of the largest military installations in the western world, U.S. Army Yuma Proving Ground’s mission is to ensure the success and dependability of weapon systems and munitions used by American military forces. The proving ground’s test and development facilities are capable of testing nearly everything in the Army’s combat arsenal, from main battle tanks and artillery pieces to unmanned aircraft, parachute systems and technologies that defeat roadside bombs.

The proving ground’s workforce is a thoroughly integrated team. Almost 3000 people, both military and civilian, conduct nearly 100 tests each day, with the full knowledge that America’s men and women in uniform are the ultimate customers. Yuma Proving Ground boasts America’s longest and busiest overland artillery range and the most highly instrumented helicopter test range in the Department of Defense.

The proving ground’s history goes back to 1943, with the establishment of Camp Laguna for troop training and the Yuma Test Station for testing military equipment. Today, Yuma Proving Ground is the busiest test center in the Army Test and Evaluation Command.
